Project Overview
Organizers: TAKT PROJECT + SOLIZE
This project identifies and introduces the Japanese sensibility found in the “ways of forming relationships” and “attitudes toward” nature that exist prior to “creation.”
The word “shizen” (“nature”) that we use today was redefined in the modern era to translate the Western concept of “Nature.” This definition is premised on a binary opposition between a human (subject) and nature (object).
In contrast, the word “jinen”, as it existed in Japan prior to this, signifies something that comes to be of its own accord, existing as it is, beyond human intention or manipulation.
While conventional manufacturing seeks to “make things become” a planned form, the exhibits in this project using contemporary technology explore an alternative approach: things naturally take shape through engagement, rather than through human intention. What emerges from this is a way to reclaim dialogue with nature and rediscover sensitivity to the environment as to “Another Person”. This inquiry is the intent of the project. Focused on 100 studies featuring branches as a motif, the exhibition presents the sensibility of Nature “shizen / jinen” from multiple perspectives—a perspective we wish to highlight precisely now, when environmental issues are being raised with such urgency.

Background of the Project
The Sustainable Creativity Lab (hereinafter referred to as “SCL”, a department conducting research and development activities based on the long-term vision of SOLIZE Holdings Corporation) and TAKT PROJECT jointly organized the exhibition “Lessons in Relating: Dialogue with Trees #100” in November 2025. The exhibition presented new possibilities in design through the integration of natural elements and digital technology.
Since its founding in 1990, the SOLIZE Group has pursued innovation in manufacturing using digital technology. Within this framework, SCL conducts research on new approaches to manufacturing in a sustainable society, guided by the concept of “Toward Truly Sophisticated Manufacturing”.
One of SCL’s goals is to integrate manufacturing into the natural cycle. To achieve this, we have explored how to engage with and utilize natural materials using modern digital technology.
Cooperating with TAKT PROJECT from 2024, we have conducted research and developed concepts through hands-on creative work. In our exhibition, we presented an attempt to explore a new approach to manufacturing by viewing digital technology as an entity that expands the capabilities of both materials and the people who work with them.
The project selected this time represents a further development of these efforts.

JAPAN HOUSE Overview
The JAPAN HOUSE is an overseas hub established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to showcase and communicate Japan with the international community in 3 cities of the world as part of efforts to strengthen strategic global communication. Each hub features an exhibition space, a multi-purpose space with theater facilities, a retail space, food and drink, books, online connectivity, and a cafe space. The project merges together these functions, and the activities they enable, to introduce a variety of themes, in detail and with substance: the future of tradition, the passion of popular culture, the power of advanced technology, and the diverse appeal of Japanese food. Activities are designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, including those with no previous interest in Japan.
