Design and Validation Solutions to Predict Product Life Accurately

MSC Software’s solution suite for FE based durability and fatigue problems is designed to help predict product life accurately for various time-dependent and frequency-dependent loading conditions. It finds applications in a variety of sectors including aerospace, automotive, biomedical, energy, electronics, consumer products, and machinery.

Failure rate prediction is one of the challenging aspects in developing a product, especially since physical testing for all possible failure scenarios isn’t always feasible. In such instances, finite element models can help conduct durability analysis effectively. In addition to fatigue life calculations, it can also be used to compute other parameters such as safe working stresses and warranty claim curves.

MSC Software enables several types of durability analysis including the fatigue of rotating systems, component failure predictions, and vibration fatigue using random loading, among others.

Features of Fatigue & Durability Software

Nastran Embedded Fatigue (NEF)

NEF allows engineers to perform fatigue computations without the need for extensive stress files. This helps optimize disk space and analyze fatigue stress at great speed.

Nastran Embedded Vibration Fatigue (NEVF)

NEVF enables engineering professionals to perform fatigue analysis for frequency domain models with a dynamic structural analysis technique. This helps address quality issues associated with complex load histories for frequency domain models.

This technique also expedites the process of analysing the frequency magnitude of a product with minimal errors.

Interactive GUI Based Fatigue Analysis

MSC Fatigue enables engineers to improve product durability by conducting extensive stress analysis using the results of FE analysis. The MSC Fatigue GUI enables both CAE and dynamic analysis. It can be used in conjunction with MSC Patran to access pre- and post-processing features under an advanced modelling environment.

Nonlinear Crack Propagation Capability

MSC Fatigue offers an intuitive set of material classes including ductile, brittle, composites, elastomers, and concrete, which can be represented in Marc/Mentat FEA non-linear solver to specifically to address failure models.

The crack propagation capability is a comprehensive tool that enables engineers to understand failure mechanisms.

Virtual Loads & Multi Body Dynamic Systems

MSC tools such as Adams allow engineers to simulate durability duty cycles and assess component load histories. They can also drive a durability test ring by integrating with RPCIII or DAC formats.

In conjunction with fatigue life prediction programs, these tools can help visualize stress and hotspots to improve the overall product design.

Accurate Data Materials

Being a crucial part of fatigue analysis, MSC Software, along with HBM nCode, enables fatigue life prediction from various virtual simulations. This helps assess durability performance at early stages to avoid future design changes.

Global Training & Engineering Services

MSC software partners with industry experts to offer training in fatigue and engineering services. Additionally, it runs a Durability Management Quick Start project specifically for engineering and design professionals looking to shift to a solver embedded approach from GUI based fatigue analysis.
