Academia3DEXPERIENCE® platform A. P. Shah Institute of Technology

A. P. Shah Institute of Technology

Overview

Established in 2014, the A. P. Shah Institute of Technology (APSIT) is a premier engineering institute located in the Thane district of Maharashtra, India. The Institute’s Mechanical Engineering department offers a project based learning curriculum that seeks to impart technical know-how, promote problem solving skills and drive innovation. The department was looking for a comprehensive solution for complex 3D design, advanced simulation, digital manufacturing, product life cycle management and a tool for collaboration between students and faculty from anywhere and at any time.

Challenges

  • Creating multiple prototypes based on design modifications was an arduous cycle.
  • Separate tools for design, simulation, and manufacturing slowed down the process
  • For group projects, students could only complete tasks one after the other. Concurrent work was not possible.
  • Students needed to carry hardcopies of documents such as project reports, design, calculations.

Products Used

APSIT purchased the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform (on CLOUD). The various modules in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform such as 3DEXPERIENCE Essentials, Design and Engineering, Advanced Simulation, Manufacturing and Production, Governance and Project Management were suitable to address all their requirements for integrated data management, cross-functional collaboration, innovative digital & virtual applications and concurrent engineering.

Approach

With training and support from the SOLIZE India team, the mechanical engineering department at APSIT was able to implement the 3DEXPERIENCE platform with the following features:

  • Product Data Management
With the complete project data of each student stored on the cloud, students and project coordinators can access and manage data seamlessly.
  • Theoretical Knowledge to Practical Applications
Calculations are demonstrated practically through design and simulation features helping students get a better understanding of the concepts.
  • Model Based Design
Students can reduce iterations and save time by validating manufacturing aspects during design phase itself.
  • Concurrent Engineering
Students in a team can access data on a real time basis and work concurrently.
  • Device Agnostic
Students can access the data from anywhere any time from any system and even from their mobiles.
  • All in One Solution
Students can access latest updated data on all applications, eliminating silos.
  • Digital Continuity
Design, simulation and manufacture capabilities are all available through one unified solution.
  • Data Security
Access available only with 3DPassport credentials making data and information completely secure
  • 3DEXPERIENCE Twin
Students can do a virtual simulation of their product with complete duplicate physical environment in the software

Benefits

  • Students get exposure to a current generation, industry-deployed digital product development platform.
  • Students now have a first-hand experience of many of the critical industry practices like product data management, digital continuity, digital twin etc.
  • The institute’s students also submitted their project to the La Fondation Dassault Systèmes – The research and efforts involved in completing the project greatly enhanced their technical knowledge which will surely be an added advantage besides their academic achievements. (La Fondation Dassault Systèmes supports innovative, not-for-profit projects from project leaders based in Europe, India and the United States.)
  • The certification courses offered by Dassault Systèmes helped the students develop new capabilities. These courses give them the potential for increased employment opportunities in the new global economy.

“With adequate support from SOLIZE India, using the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform has been a remarkable experience for the students, faculty and management – giving us opportunities for greater collaboration and enriched interaction. The complete exercise of carrying out projects, sharing data and reviewing it has become more convenient and seamless.”
