Press Release

Adoption of Proposal for NEDO’s Open-Call R&D Project - Research & Development of AI Applied Technology which Supports Decision-Making in Design Risk Evaluation, Based on Expert Points of View -

Proposed jointly by global engineering partner in the product development in the manufacturing industry, the SOLIZE Group (headquartered in Tokyo, Japan; President: Keiichi Shinohara; hereinafter “SOLIZE”), Retrieva, Inc., and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, “Research & Development of AI Applied Technology which Supports Decision-Making in Design Risk Evaluation, Based on Expert Points of View” was adopted by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (hereinafter “NEDO”) as one of the research topics for its 2019 open-call project, Development of Integrated Technology: The Core of Next-Generation AI & Robotics (hereinafter “the project”).

SOLIZE provides Innovation Engineering Services—business reform consulting that is based on transforming the tacit knowledge of expert designers in various industries (including the automotive industry) into explicit knowledge. SOLIZE’s strength lies in using its unique business analysis method, which focuses on human judgement, to sharply divide the duties of experts in the field into “work” and “judgement,” then utilize IT and digital technology to extend discovered tacit knowledge as organizational knowledge to the rest of the organization, and transform it into a more competitive business. In recent years, in addition to the existing “tacit to explicit knowledge approach,” we have been promoting business innovation activities which incorporate a “data science approach.”

In this project, we’ll unfold the know-how of experts, rooted in their experience and intuition, and based on that perspective, support designers in risk identification and decisions on countermeasures in design risk evaluation. We will aim for the swift realization of advanced design review that includes knowledgeable experts, as well as a reduction of reworking due to omissions in verification.

With this project as a foothold, through the realization of improvement of added value created by engineers, the promotion of sharing of knowledge assets bridging companies and industries, and the systematization of expert know-how at sites of manufacturing and establishment of AI-applied technology, SOLIZE will contribute to solving the challenges faced by the Japanese manufacturing industry, and further improve its competitiveness.

About the SOLIZE Group

SOLIZE has been a leader in digital engineering technology since the dawn of 3D CAD in the 1990s, launching its work in rapid prototyping and 3D modeling via 3D printing, as well as 3D CAD engineer training and engineering services. Today, SOLIZE provides valuable services to its customers in various industries, in particular the automotive industry, including 3D CAD/CAE Engineering Services for product design and analysis, MBD Engineering Services for model-based development, 3D Printing Engineering Services for additive manufacturing (metal/plastic) and sale of additive manufacturing equipment for products. In addition, we have developed Innovation Engineering Services which take on everything from implementation to establishment of development process reform, with technology that transforms tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge at the core.
